Many of us (allergy prone people) have Vitamin D deficiencies. There’s a new study that seems to indicate that Vitamin D is required to maintain the stability of mast cells in our systems.  This might explain a lot for those of us who have allergies pop up out of nowhere or may be a contributing factor.

In other science news, according to FARE’s blog, research published in Science Translational Medicine has shown that immune cells with a distinct protein profile are found in the blood of patients with diverse environmental and food allergies (including peanut, pollen, pet dander and mold) but absent from individuals who do not have allergic conditions. Maybe we’re making progress.

I don’t know what to say to this other than Cashew Buttercream (note that both recipes also contain coconut, just FYI). After this week, I think I could just eat a jar of it.

Also, I rediscovered chickpeas this week. I know. How do you forget chickpeas? But I do — we’ve eaten a lot of black beans and cannellini beans this summer. But I’m loving chickpeas again, and this chickpea sauerkraut salad sounds fascinating. I might even try sauerkraut again, after this past winter’s love affair with cabbage.

Have a great weekend everyone!
