In honor of yesterday, and for everyone who has ever heard “but it’s natural!” when you tell them you’re allergic: Of course you can be allergic to marajuana. Duh. A lot of attempts to answer this exist online, but what I like here besides citations of studies (along with the abstracts) is that the question asked was actually “has anyone studied cross-reactivity with weeds,” which is much more defensible and interesting a question.
And this is my newest food obsession, though this isn’t the recipe we’ve been using: Japanese-style fried chicken, called karaage. I am not sure about the traditionalness of using buttermilk in a Japanese recipe. Basically you’re looking at marinated chicken deep fried using a coating of potato or corn starch. This recipe also suggests rice bran oil for frying, which I have tried and been very happy with — higher smoke point, and the frying smell dissipates in the house more quickly.
Here’s an interesting article on a new study showing that that populations of bacteria in the gut are highly sensitive to the food we digest and changes rapidly with diet – The Gut’s Microbiome Changes Rapidly with Diet. This is kind of interesting given the theories about the relationship between microbiomes and allergies.
Not food related, but just cool for your Friday amusement – Recycled Gears Transformed Into Mechanical Creatures.
Have a great weekend everyone!
