It’s our last Friday Finds of the year! What should we do, a year in review? Nah. How about our favorite posts here, on our beloved blog, plus a few of our other favorites? Sound good? Come along, then.

  • Luna and Larry’s Mint Galactica coconut milk ice cream — I am a fan of mint chocolate chip ice cream, but this version is not only perfectly named for a sci-fi fan, but also brilliantly creamy, with proper flakes of chocolate throughout.
  • Tandoori Chicken Burgers. This is probably my favorite of my own recipes. I don’t like to brag, but I do really love this burger.
  • Spicy Red Wine Cranberry Crusted Pork Loin. And this is my favorite of Denise’s recipes this year — it looks incredibly festive and impressive, but it’s really easy.
  • Millet (and millet in this breakfast polenta). I love that millet is naturally gluten-free, unlikely to be cross-contaminated, and has a great nutty flavor. Plus it reminds me of the parakeet I had as a kid.
  • Sorghum Flour. Of all the gluten-free flours I’ve tried, this is my favorite go-to flour. It works in both sweet and savory applications, without a strong and specific flavor.
  • I spent a week this summer in Durham, which forced me to get over my fear of dining out with other people and food allergies. At the Three Chimneys Inn tavern, I had a wonderful potato-encrusted halibut, which was basically perfectly-cooked fish with a “crust” of Yukon Gold hash browns. Brilliant — and free of all my allergens (when they held the butter-based sauce).
  • That week, I also ate at the Black Trumpet Bistro in Portsmouth, NH, where great service made it possible for me to really revel in an excellent meal out. Given that this was also the end of my intensive class, it was nice to be able to enjoy the conversation without worry.
  • Tea. I really enjoyed the research and writing for the tea post.
  • Dancing Lion Mayan Drinking Chocolate. Because, well, chocolate, hot and frothed in a bowl.

  • Fruit Flavored Gummy Candy – Yes, I can have fruit flavored sugar again!
  • Killer Chocolate Fudge-y Brownies – These made me feel like I could have real brownies again.
  • Meatball Sub Meatballs – Meatballs is one of those things I crave during certain times which shall remain nameless, along with Pastrami. Now I just have to figure out to cure an allergy safe Pastrami.
  • DIY Creamy Peppercorn Dressing Spice Mix  – I use this almost weekly to make dressing for salads.
  • 15 Minute Salsa -This has become a favorite for when I entertain as well, although now I’m mostly chipless due to the sunflower thing. I need to get around to making some of my own tortilla-esque chips.
  • Taco Seasoning – We use the taco seasoning mix for the salsa and to do taco salads nearly every other week.
  • Red Lentil Dal Burger – I love the Indian flavors of this burger, and need to get it into my regular rotation.
  • Whatever Wednesday: Bacon with Brown Sugar and Sriracha – Even though I only have one safe-ish bacon and have to make my own Sriracha now, this is still awesome.
  • Tandoori Chicken Burgers – This is one of my very favorite things Mary Kate has come up with. Even though I can’t eat them anymore (allergic to chicken), I’m considering trying them with very roughly ground pork.
  • Walnut-based Chocolate Chip Cookies – I loved these when I could still eat commercially made chocolate chips. I may be able to still have them now that I’ve found the Dancing Lion Chocolate in Manchester, New Hampshire. They have several varieties that are just cacao and sugar (although there is a risk of cross contamination, as they still use dairy, eggs, nuts, and other things to which I’m allergic in the shop.)
  • Homemade Sriracha from Serious Eats – I made a batch with apple cider vinegar and one with rice wine vinegar to make it safer corn-wise, and preferred the rice wine vinegar. I wasn’t sure how I was going to live without Sriracha.
  • Chili Garlic Sauce from Canadian Living – This recipe required no substitutions but it is for canning. It’s unreal how good it is.
  • Roasted Tomatillo Salsa from The Barnyard Bistro that was so good that I could have literally eaten it with a spoon. Like a quart of it.
  • In the Most Helpful to My New Reality category for 2013, the winner is the Corn Allergy Girl.
  • In the Favorite Fermentation blog category for 2013, the winner is Phickle.com. This isn’t a food allergy site, but there’s a lot of information that is useful to those of us doing some fermenting to get some probiotics if you can’t take vitamins anymore (freaking corn).
  • In the Favorite Canning Blog category for 2013, the winner is Food in Jars. Again, this isn’t a food allergy site, but it’s a good site for those of us forced to learn to can as the result of allergies.
  • In the Favorite Light Humor Coping with Food Issues blog, the winner is Based on a Sprue Story. Even though Christmas is now over, go read Sprue Stories: The Christmas Edition. My personal favorite was Almost Twelve Days of Celiac.
